Doug Shepherd
Doug has been the County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources with Livestock emphasis since 1990. He was an Extension Intern in Hardin County in 1970.
Originally from Ohio, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Kentucky in 1972. Upon graduation he was appointed Extension Agent for Agriculture in Crittenden County, KY where he served nearly seven years. While in Western Kentucky, he has worked as an Assistant Manager for a private agency Southern States Coop store, and operated a 1,000 acre row-crop/confinement hog farrow-to-feeder pig operation/commercial beef herd. Later he managed two retail fertilizer plants for Cargill in Breckinridge County, KY.
Along with his Extension career, Doug also serves as Beef Superintendent of the North American International Livestock Exposition held in Louisville, UK Beef Integrated Resource Management (IRM) Committee, Elizabethtown-Hardin County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Elizabethtown Emmaus Board, Usher and Sunday School class facilitator Memorial United Methodist Church.
He and his wife Allison moved to Hardin County in August 1990. He has four children and four grandchildren.
